He was also a volunteer Attorney with the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago) , the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy group. He’s currently a Chicago board member and Education Coordinator for the American Muslims for Palestine (AMP). Tarek lectures on topics such as modern Palestinian history, Middle East politics, and Palestinian rights under international law.
Focus of the Discussion: History of Palestine from the start of the Nakba in 1948 (founding of Israel) to the present. The Nakba in Arabic means “catastrophe”, and represents the ethnic cleansing of Palestine, which is an ongoing process. Israel and Palestine have been in the headlines recently due to recent events, and is always a major topic of discussion. The goal of this discussion is to better understand the history and current conditions that have impacted the situation that exists today.
