Emory Williams Academy Information Night

Evanston Township High School is partnering with Oakton Community College to empower Black men to navigate college and achieve academic and career goals. The Emory Williams Academy for Black Men will open its doors in the fall 2022 to 25 students. The academy is open to all first-year Oakton students who self-identify as male and as Black and live in Oakton’s district.

Information sessions for interested students will be held in Evanston on April 14 at the Robert Crown Community Center and May 4 at Evanston Township High School. Registration is required. ETHS students may also sign up during school hours by visiting the College & Career Services office located in the Hub (W220).

At these sessions, future scholars and family members can meet Oakton faculty and ask questions about the program and the support they’ll receive.

The academy is named after Emory Williams, who spent 27 years at ETHS as a vocational counselor, supervisor of vocational services, and as the director of the cooperative education department, until retiring from the high school in 1994. At Oakton, he served on the Board of Trustees from 2003 to 2009, holding the offices of secretary, vice chair and chair during his six-year term.
