Evanston Churches to hold Palm Sunday Processional in Raymond Park
April 2 @ 9:00 AM - 9:30 AM
Free
Four Evanston churches will come together at Raymond Park to host an Ecumenical Palm Sunday Processional, April 2 at 9 a.m., complete with a live donkey.
The event celebrates the entry of Jesus Christ, riding on a donkey into the city of Jerusalem in the week prior to his arrest, crucifixion, and death on Good Friday.
Rev. Michael Woolf, senior minister at Lake Street Church of Evanston, reached out to the staffs of First Congregational Church of Evanston, Immanuel Lutheran Church, and First Presbyterian Church of Evanston, and all expressed interest in taking part. This is the second year of the outdoor processional, which is organized by Lake Street Church.
Congregation members including singers and instrumentalists from the participating churches will be on hand to take part in a shared time of celebration. The event is, of course, open to the public. Following the procession, the church participants will walk to their own buildings for Palm Sunday church services.
Lake Street Church is located at 607 Lake Street, just west of Raymond Park, with services Sundays at 10:30 a.m. Immanuel Lutheran Church is only slightly further west at 616 Lake Street, and has services at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays. First Presbyterian Church of Evanston is directly south of the park at 1427 Chicago Avenue (the corner of Lake and Chicago) and holds its Sunday services at 9:30 a.m. First Congregational Church of Evanston meets Sundays at 10 a.m. in their Church House at 1445 Hinman Avenue, directly east of the park.
