Inaugural Doria Dee Johnson Scholarship Golf Outing at Canal Shores Golf Course – Friday, June 10, at 10 a.m.
June 10th, 2022 @ 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM
$25 – $100
Join us! The inaugural golf outing for the Doria Dee Johnson Scholarship, which will be awarded to Evanston Township High School African American students attending historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
This scholarship is established to inspire today’s students and future generations to ask questions, learn our history and challenge injustice. It will be awarded in memory of the late Doria Dee Johnson, a former Evanston native who, among other notable achievements, helped secure a formal apology from the U.S. Senate in 2005 for its longstanding failure to end the pervasive lynching of African American citizens.
Doria’s own family fled their hometown of Abbeville, North Carolina and relocated to Evanston after her great- great grandfather was lynched in 1916. Many ancestors of those who fled Abbeville following that terrorist act live in Evanston to this day. Let’s make Doria proud.
