Instrumental Music Showcase Band Concert at ETHS featuring District 65’s 8th grade band and orchestra students

District 65’s Instrumental Department will premiere an original commissioned work, “A Letter to the Mothers,” by composer Stefan L. Smith. The 8th grade band and orchestra students will come together as one collective group of 100+ students and perform the work as part of the Instrumental Music Showcase Band Concert at ETHS on Tuesday, March 8, 7 p.m., in the ETHS auditorium.

As part of the learning experience, students attended a virtual masterclass with the composer to discuss the compositional work, themes, and meanings. Through this project, the students explored how listening, composing, and performing music can bring attention and light to various social justice causes.
