JRC’s Pride Lakefront Shabbat
June 24th, 2022 @ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Free
As the sun sets over Lake Michigan, Rabbi Rachel Weiss, Evanston’s first lesbian rabbi and Cantor Friedland will lead an hour-long service celebrating the struggle for LGBTQIA+ civil rights and full acceptance into Judaism. “We are all created in the image of the divine and all of us are sacred: not in spite of our LGBTQIA+ identities, but BECAUSE of them.” says Rabbi Weiss. JRC warmly welcomes all identities – no exceptions – and praises the gifts that Queer Jews bring to our community. Whether a family with 2 moms, 2 dads, many parents, transgender, nonbinary, and cisgender people too – JRC celebrates you! “When we show up with our full identities, we make the whole world more sacred.” says Rabbi Weiss. JRC encourages the community to “bring your full self” to Pride Shabbat as we bless the rainbow! Rabbi Weiss continues, “Given this time of violence, hate speech and hateful acts that we are experiencing as a nation, we need celebratory religious spaces that embrace and raise up collective joy in the diverse identities of our community. Joy is an act of spiritual resilience and resistance.”
