December 2nd, 2022 @ 7:30 PM

Symphonic Band
Friday, December 2, 7:30 p.m. CST
Pick-Staiger Concert Hall
Shawn Vondran, conductor
The Symphonic Band celebrates band standards and vibrant new works in a program featuring Valerie Coleman’s Roma, a tribute to the culture of the Romani people; John Barnes Chance’s poignant Elegy; and Gustav Holst’s folk song-inspired Second Suite in F. Also on the program is David Maslanka’s Mother Earth: A Fanfare, a work the composer describes as “a living call to the wide-awake life,” and a reminder to cherish our planet. The evening concludes with Adam Schoenberg’s Finding Rothko, written in response to a series of four paintings by the titular artist.
