LWVE to host 2nd Ward Candidates Forum
February 18 @ 1:00 PM
FREE
The League of Women Voters of Evanston (LWVE) will host a public forum for candidates running in the upcoming special election for the City Council seat in the 2nd Ward. The forum is set for Saturday, February 18 at 1:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave. The forum will be recorded for those unable to attend in person, and will be available on the League website, https://www.lwve.org/ from Sunday, February 19 until Election Day on April 4.
A special election is required when a council seat is vacated with more than two years remaining in the term. That is the case in the 2nd and 9th Wards, where the seats are currently held by Mayoral appointees. Candidates for the 2nd Ward are Darlene Cannon, Patricia Gregory and Krissie Harris, who currently holds the seat via Mayoral appointment. Candidates for the 9th Ward were invited to participate in the forum, but one of the candidates is not available on February 19. (League policy requires that all candidates in a race be present at forums.)
What voters need to know about the April 4 election:
Early voting begins on March 20 and continues until April 3. If you are not yet registered to vote, or have moved, visit the Evanston City Clerk’s office in person or online at https://www.cityofevanston.org/government/city-clerk-s-office/elections.
