Start your Holiday with St. Nick’s Fest!
When your church is named Saint Nicholas, you have a special calling!
St. Nicholas Church in Evanston was established by German speaking immigrants from Luxembourg 132 years ago. They chose Nicholas as their patron saint and the namesake of the church. St. Nicholas was an excellent choice, as he is the saint of all in need; a long list which includes sailors, students, merchants, and prisoners to name just a few. But he is most acknowledged as the patron and protector of children.
At St. Nicholas Parish, we celebrate our namesake with a full weekend event for the whole community on the first weekend of December each year. St. Nick’s Fest, will be held this year on December 3, 4, and 5.
The festivities begin on Friday night, December 3, in the church with a visit from St. Nicholas himself, who will tell stories to children and families of the real Bishop Nicholas. After the stories, everyone process outside to light the Christmas tree on Ridge Ave., while our huge bronze bells, installed in 1906, will peal from the tower.
On Saturday and Sunday, December 4 & 5, the church grounds turn into a wonderland of Christmas trees, greenery, crafts, and more. The Craft Fair on Saturday and Sunday offers a great opportunity to purchase beautiful, unique gifts for adults and children. Over 50 crafters will have wares in two buildings, selling quality gift items: jewelry, knitwear, wooden bowls, pottery, and much more. All crafts are local and homemade. Our crafters, many who return each year, tell us this is their favorite fair of the season. Delicious Mexican food and hot drinks will be available for shoppers.
A forest of 500 trees will arrive for Saturday and Sunday’s
Christmas Tree Sale! It’s always exciting when the trucks arrive bringing loads of Christmas trees grown on family farms from the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia and Northern Wisconsin. These Frasers, Balsams and Scotch Pines are fresh and fragrant, cut only days before they arrive. Trees and greens can be ordered ahead or purchased directly on the church grounds. Delivery is offered within the Evanston/Skokie area.
Start the season at St. Nick’s Fest! Bring the whole family! All are welcome!
