Visions of Life 2 signing at Bookends & Beginnings

October 27 @ 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Free

“Visions of Life 2” is an anthology in which the authors wrote a short story inspired by artwork selected from 3 art books.

Please join us to hear from the editor, 3 authors and one artist:

Ivy Sundell – “Visions of Life 2” editor. Also the editor for The Chicago Art Scene, Art Scene, Chicago 2000, and Living Artists.

Paco Aramburu – author of “The Predicted End of Will”, a story in which the protagonist must confront whether knowing one’s destiny is desirable or inhibiting. His story was inspired by Bruno Surdo’s painting, “Flora of the Subway”. Bruno is an Evanston resident. His work will be exhibited at the Skokie Public Library’s Visions of Life show from Nov. 2 to Dec 20.

Elizabeth DeSchryver – author of “Quiet Invasions”, inspired by Jacqueline Moses’ painting of the same name. Quiet Invasions is about a grandmother’s encounter in a Jewish cemetery when she was a young girl during World War II. Beth is also the author of “Disappearing Act”, inspired by Katherine Grossfeld’s painting, “Sparkle”, Susan Hall’s painting, “Gift”, and John Rush’s painting, “Study of a Winged Figure”. Disappearing Act is about a young woman on the eve of her wedding. She is from a Catholic family and she hasn’t told her mother that she is pregnant. After taking a DNA test, she finds out that she’s part Jewish, upending her self image. Beth and John are both Evanston residents.

Jacqueline Moses – her painting inspired Elizabeth DeSchryver’s story. She will be showing one of her paintings at the book signing. Her work will also be exhibited at the Skokie Public Library’s Visions of Life show.

Barbara Joyce – author of “The Age of Reason”, inspired by Eric Semelroth’s painting, “Muslim Madonna”. The Age of Reason follows a Catholic school child’s experiences of faith from her first Communion to her later questioning the patriarchal policies in Catholicism as an adult.

We look forward to seeing you.
