Mayor Stephen Hagerty and Northwestern University President Morton Schapiro teamed up for the second year in a row as Co-Captains of the Evanston MashUp, which took place on Sept. 20 at Northwestern University.

Hundreds of Evanston community leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators gathered under a large, beachfront tent behind Norris University Center for an evening of food, music and conversation. The annual networking event is hosted by Northwestern University in coordination with the City of Evanston, the Evanston Chamber of Commerce and other business partners.

Two individuals were honored at this year’s MashUp. Alan Anderson, former NU director for neighborhood and community relations, received the Catalyst Award, which is presented each year to a person or organization that embodies the essence of collaboration and is a spark for positive impact in the community. Mr. Anderson is moving to Georgia, where he will be closer to family members.

Patrick Hughes, who has been widely recognized for his passion for solving problems in the Evanston community and beyond, accepted the Corrine Passage Spirit of Evanston Award. Mr. Hughes, founder and former CEO of Inclusion Solutions, is perhaps best known locally for founding the Evanston MashUp. The event gives Evanstonians and members of the Northwestern community an opportunity to make connections that continue the spirit of the event throughout the year.
