Police Investigate May 25 Shootings

Evanston Police are investigating two shootings that took place on May 25. The first shooting occurred in the west alley of the 1800 block of Darrow Avenue at 4:44 p.m. Evanston Police responded to calls of shots fired. When officers arrived, they did not locate any victims but spoke to witnesses, who said an occupant of a silver SUV was shooting at a blue Audi sedan. Officers located 10 shell casings in the alley, according to a statement from the Evanston Police Department.

A short time later, Wilmette Police notified Evanston Police that they had located a blue Audi with several bullet holes at 7th Street and Elmwood Avenue in Wilmette.  Evanston Detectives responded and learned it was the Audi from the Darrow Avenue shooting, police said. Two subjects in the Audi had suffered gunshots wounds. The driver, a 33-year-old male (city of residence unknown), suffered a minor wound to his right shoulder. He was treated on scene by paramedics and released, police said. The front seat passenger, a 24-year-old female resident of Skokie, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, also according to information from the Evanston Police. She was transported to Evanston Hospital and was listed in stable condition and is expected to recover from her injuries, police said. The third occupant in the Audi has not yet been located and interviewed by detectives.

The second shooting took place in the 2000 block of Jackson Avenue at 9:03 p.m. on May 25. Evanston Police received calls of a fight in the street, and shots had been fired before the police arrived, according to information from the Evanston Police Department. Once on scene officers located three shell casings in the street but no victims or offenders. No injuries were reported; a small compact vehicle was seen fleeing the area after the shooting, according to the police.

Evanston Police continue to investigate both incidents. There are no suspects in custody for either shooting. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Evanston Police Detective Bureau at 847-866-5040 or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES (274637) and then start the message with EPDTIP.
