ETHS Students and Adviser Earn Top Career Conference Honors

Twenty-eight team members from Evanston Township High School were among the 1,300 high school students competing in the Illinois DECA Career Development Conference in February. Fifteen ETHS students placed in the top three at the 2018 Illinois State competition.

Two ETHS students earned the opportunity to compete at the International DECA Competition in April. And Jenny Weber, a teacher in the ETHS Career & Technical Education Department and a DECA adviser, was named the 2018 Illinois DECA Marketing Educator of the Year.

Students competed in business/entrepreneurship activities through business role play situations, taking business-oriented exams, presenting written research projects, public relations campaigns, and delivering pitches for new business concepts.

The following ETHS students qualified in their written event:

Jack Caldwell – 1st Place: Community Service Project

Michael Barrera – 1st Place: Creative Marketing Project

Ethan Igunbor and Nicholas Perruffel – 2nd Place: Franchise a Business

Nora Ferguson – 1st Place; Franchise a Business

Matthew Ho and Jacob Nagle – 1st Place: Hospitality and Tourism Operations Research

Josh Rowzee and Jean Dorelus - 2nd Place: Hospitality and Tourism Operations Research

Sophie Perruffel – 1st Place:; Independent Business Plan

Margo Levitan – 1st Place; International Business Plan

Megan Bezaitis – 2nd Place; Public Relations Project

Jake Cvetas and Zoe Cvetas – 1st Place; Sports and Entertainment Business Operations Research Event

Nate Gavalek – 1st Place; Start-Up a Business plan

Olivia Holland and Georgia Wilson – 6th Place; Travel and Tourism Team Decision Making Event, Role Play

State winners in first, second and third place are invited to compete in April at the International DECA competition that will host over 17,000 students from across the United States as well as from Mexico, Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico, China, and Germany.
