The Evanston Work Ethic (WE) Program introduced its second group of seven Evanston Township High School juniors at a private dinner on March 22.
New inductees include Lorenzo Campos, Ra’Kell Drape, Kobi Evans, Justin Hammond, Sade’ Harden, Cecelia Landrum and Sam Seiler. Earlier this year, four members of the senior class were also accepted into the program: Minna Cotton, Riley Margura, Jazmyne Thompson and Jeremiah Thompson.

An outgrowth of the Forrest E. Powell Foundation, the WE Program selects students to participate in a full curriculum of career-readiness workshops that introduce and polish professional skills including leadership, oral and written communication, resume- and cover-letter writing, dressing for success and interviewing techniques. Students may apply at the beginning of their junior or senior year.

A paid summer apprenticeship helps each student test out a career with hands-on experience. Additional one-on-one counseling and financial aid assistance is provided to help each student find his or her best fit for post-high school education and training. The career goals of current WE Program participants include nursing, healthcare tech, IT support/networking, coding, fire-fighting, municipal water operations, culinary arts, automotive tech and manufacturing tech.

At the March 22 event, Dick Peach received the Work Ethic award for his role as a Board member of the WE Program, his community service in all areas and his devotion to family.
