District 65 Welcomes New Director of Research, Accountability, and Data
 On Monday, September 24, 2018, the District 65 School Board approved the appointment of Kylie Klein, as Director of Research, Accountability, and Data (RAD) as recommended by Superintendent Paul Goren.

Despite some positive data for 2018, Dr. Goren said, “We still have much more work to do, and we have to work even more urgently, as our trends over time won’t be met unless we accelerate progress to meet our five-year goals as we’ve stated in the strategic plan.”

District 65 School Board Adopts Budget for FY'19
On Sept. 24, the District 65 School Board approved the District’s budget for the 2018-2019 school year (FY’19), with operating expenses of almost $130 million. Kathy Zalewski, Business Manager, presented the budget to the Board.

Annual Curriculum Review Leads to 30 Updated Courses
“Summer curriculum projects are important for a variety of reasons, particularly curriculum development, assessments, writing standards alignment and professional development,” Pete Bavis, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Development told the District 202 School Board at its Sept. 11 meeting.

King Arts Earns Exemplary School Designation
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Literary and Fine Arts School earned an Exemplary Arts School designation, a five-year designation, from the National Arts Schools Network. King Arts is one of 16 schools across the nation to receive this honor.

ETHS Homecoming Royalty
ETHS seniors Jaheim Holden and Kathlyn Etyem, pictured with Superintendent Eric Witherspoon and Assistant Superintendent Marcus Campbell, were crowned Homecoming Royalty during the half-time show at the varsity football game on Sept. 21.

Kiwanis Club Honors Scholar Athletes
Three scholar athletes from Evanston Township High School were honored by the Kiwanis Club of Evanston. ETHS seniors Michael Axelrood, Annie Hedges and Clara Lynk each received the Ted Van Zelst Award in September 2018.

Results of an annual 5Essentials survey show that in the 2017-18 school year, School District 65 declined in four of the five areas deemed critical for school success. The survey is administered under the auspices of the Illinois State Board of Education.

ETHS Boosterpalooza on Sept 8
Evanston Township High School Boosters is hosting its sixth annual Boosterpalooza from 6 to 10 p.m. on Sept. 8 at the Sherman Plaza Garage Rooftop, 821 Davis St.  The event brings together people from throughout the community to support ETHS students while enjoying a line-up of local bands, food and beverages under the stars.

MAP Normative Data Shows Significantly Higher Achievement Levels for CPS Students than NAEP or PARCC
In recent years, Paul Zavitkovsky, a researcher and leadership coach at the Center for Urban Education Leadership Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago, noticed that MAP tests are generating significantly higher results than those generated by the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) and the Illinois PARCC tests.
