MAP Normative Data Shows Significantly Higher Achievement Levels for CPS Students than NAEP or PARCC
In recent years, Paul Zavitkovsky, a researcher and leadership coach at the Center for Urban Education Leadership Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago, noticed that MAP tests are generating significantly higher results than those generated by the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) and the Illinois PARCC tests.

EC2C Puts the Focus on 'Systems Change'
Partners of the Evanston Cradle to Career initiative (EC2C) focused on “systems change” at their July 26 meeting held at the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center. Sheila Merry, Executive Director of EC2C, said systems change “may reframe in modest ways the way we approach this work.”

AG's Office Requests School District 202 to Produce Certain Records
On July 18, the Public Access Counselor (PAC) of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office issued a 14-page decision which held that School District 202 “improperly withheld certain records responsive” to Stan Zoller’s Oct. 18, 2017 and Nov. 20, 2017 requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act.

Freedom School Summer Program Continues in Evanston
What started as a civil rights movement in the 1960s has made its way to Evanston’s Fifth Ward. The Garrett-Evanston Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools Program, which grew out of the Mississippi Freedom Summer Project of 1964, is currently in its third year of providing a free six-week summer learning program for third- through eighth-grade students in School District 65.

EPL Partnerships and Programs Take Reading 'Everywhere' This Summer
This summer, the Evanston Public Library is taking nearly 4,000 kids, teens and adults on exciting adventures without leaving the City.  With partnerships around town, EPL staff and volunteers are working hard to put books into the hands of residents to increase literacy and stem summer learning loss.

UNITY Scholarship Recipients Honored
The UNITY Scholarship Recognition Reception was held in June at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church in Evanston, where 16 Black community organizations presented scholarships to 50 students, pictured above, all of whom are committed to continuing their education beyond high school. Evanston Township High School Black honor roll students were also recognized at the UNITY reception.
