Latina Leader At St. Nicholas
Alejandra Lule-Rivera has resided in Evanston for over 30 years. A native of La Moncada, Guanajuato, Mexico, she moved to the United States at the age of 2. “I am very fortunate that current immigration issues were not a problem for my family as they are today for many.”

As an Evanstonian, ‘Alex’ graduated from Nichols Middle School, Evanston Township High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts from University of Illinois at Chicago and a Masters in Management from North Park University.

A parishioner of St. Nicholas Church for more than 25 years, she said, “The Latino community at St. Nick’s has grown to be as large as its non-Latino members. I remember when the feast of the Virgen de Guadalupe on Dec. 12 was not celebrated here. Today, it is one of the largest celebrations for our congregation.”

In August, Mrs. Lule-Rivera became the first Latina Manager of Office Support at St. Nicholas. “I began working at the rectory office when I was in high school. My job now is very versatile. I provide support to all of our staff. I get to do a little bit of everything from helping with religious education to ensuring that all our operations are running smoothly. I love  being able to work with so many people from many ethnic backgrounds. I help to bring forward the Latino voice of our community and that is very important.”

“I want my 2-year-old daughter Grace to have a diverse community experience when she attends school. She will have that in Evanston.” Mrs. Lule-Rivera can be reached via email at
