Open Studios Holds Annual 'Artopia' Event

Open Studio Project will honor Evanston businesswomen and residents Amy Morton and Susan Trieschmann at its annual Artopia, to be held from 6 to 10 p.m. on April 20 at the Halim Time & Glass Museum, on 1560 Oak Ave.

Ms. Morton, owner of Found Kitchen and The Barn, will receive the Don Seiden award, and Ms. Trieschmann, Founder and Executive Director of Curt’s Café, will receive the Gallery 901 Award.

Artopia: A Wrinkle in Time will also feature food and drink, live and silent auctions and an evening of music by Nicholas Barron. The event funds Open Studio Project’s

Both Ms. Trieschmann and Ms. Morton employ and train the homeless or those placed at risk with the training skills of restaurant work.

The mission of the Open Studio Project is to serve the community by teaching and disseminating a creative process that allows individuals of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to experience art as a vehicle for personal growth. The Evanston-based organization, serves the Chicago metropolitan area. Open Studio Project is committed to the concept that art can transform lives through self-discovery and enrich communities by promoting positive social change.

Open Studio Project runs creative arts classes and workshops for adults, teens and children, both in its studio and in classrooms and organizations across the North Shore. Gallery 901, at 903 Shermna Ave., increases awareness of social issues and invites diverse artists and audiences to join in exhibiting and viewing work made with a creative process.
