More Room: Lessons of Luck
Luck is usually considered to be random, inconstant and, well…lucky, something other people seem to have more of. “Success or failure,” the dictionary says, “apparently brought on by chance rather than through one’s own actions.”

Room for a View: Angst
A healthy self views the world as it really is, with all its beauty as well as its imperfections. Acceptance of reality allows the self to begin to deal with the challenges to inner peace.

Editorial: Equal Treatment Among School Board Candidates?
On Dec. 17, Nicholas Korzeniowski filed nomination papers to place himself on the ballot as a candidate for the District 65 School Board in the April 2 election. On Dec. 24, Suni Kartha, President of the District 65 School Board, filed objections, seeking to keep him off the ballot. On Jan. 9, a Hearing Officer issued a ruling in which he recommends that that Mr. Korzeniowski’s name not be on the ballot. See story in "Schools" section.

Room for a View: Year's End
The end of every year usually dances with hope to welcome the year ahead. But if, as Shakespeare said, “What’s past is prologue,” the end piece of this year may want to “sit this one out.”

Editorial: Facing the Scorching, Stormy, Frigid, Parched Future: Climate Change
Last week’s report on climate change seems to have something to frighten nearly everyone.  Storms will intensify but periods between them could be hotter and drier. Things we relied on for food may not be available – but buying food that is out of season here and flown in from a distance may soon be a ridiculous luxury.
