Editorial: Brett Kavanaugh Is Unfit for the Supreme Court
Judge Kavanaugh is not being prosecuted for a crime. He is seeking a lifetime job on the Supreme Court. The people of this country have an important right having Justices on the Court whose character and integrity are beyond reproach and whose honesty is beyond doubt, or at the very least beyond a reasonable doubt. He has the burden of demonstrating that. Based on what we have seen, he has fallen far short.

Room for a View: Where's the Truth?

I am not, and have never wanted to be a politician. But I am an American who believes in “We, the people” far, far more than “Me, the President.”

Room for a View: A Blessing in David
David’s patience with my friend was awesome. When talking with him about his kindness, he felt it was what people were supposed to be about. Did David make my day?  He sure did, and he made it for many a day to follow.

More Room: Staying in Tune

Think of bending your attention laser-like to your work the way kids do playing video games. Have you ever noticed a dog waiting for a scrap of food from the table during a meal? Now that is focused concentration!

The Evolving Cost of the New Robert Crown Center

In the Aug. 23 edition, the Evanston RoundTable charged that the Robert Crown Community Center (RCCC) project provided “virtually no discussion” of why this critically needed and widely supported project comes with a $53 million guaranteed maximum price.

Editorial: A Win for the City
With the unrest, anger and suspicion surrounding many of the activities at the City – not to mention in this country – City Council needed a win. They have one – and likely the first of many – in the work of the Alternatives to Arrest Committee.

Room for a View: Aging and Technology
I have no difficulty admitting that technology can drive me crazy; but it keeps me young, if not in years at least in energy. As both friend and writer, I live on my iPad, smartphone and computer.

Room for a View: They Did Shine
It is with sadness that I acknowledge the passing of Karen Chavers and “Mayor Morton.” I always addressed “Mayor Morton” as “Lorraine” unless in written correspondence or during a public meeting. I knew and loved Karen and Lorraine for decades. Both of them displayed a passion for humanity, and I greatly respected them for this. They also had a great sense of humor. This added to their charisma.

More Room: POTUS for a Day
Imagine that the presidency, instead of being a four-year term, rotates among common citizens. Everyone gets to be the chief executive for 24 hours. And today is your turn. What would you do? Here’s a speech draft you can use to address a joint session of Congress.

Why Evanston Should VOTE YES to Save Harley Clarke
If you are an Evanston resident, you own a piece of the 1920s Tudor revival style mansion with lakefront access and views at 2603 Sheridan Rd. The Harley Clarke mansion, with its Jens Jensen prairie school-designed landscape, is a local landmark, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
