Harley Clarke, Good Government and Democracy
These projects are successful only when local governments show leadership and support for finding solutions. This does not mean the City must spend millions of dollars on a project. More Room: Perseverance

Room for a View: Your Vote, Your Voice
Lunch with my young friend was going great. We hadn’t connected for a while, so catching up was our agenda, which we did with great pleasure.  Over coffee, though, we touched on politics and the coming elections. What followed felt for a moment like a cloud had swallowed the sun.

A friend needed to go to her bank on a Thursday afternoon.  Her bank turned out to be in the Jewel store on Howard Street near McCormick. When we got inside the store, my friend instructed me to sit on a bench near the bank. Not being receptive to being directed to sit down on the bench (not cooperatively hers), I decided to wander around the store, buy some items, then sit on the bench.

More Room: Music Lessons
Research tells us that music education is critical to the development of young minds. At Northwestern’s Auditory Neuroscience Lab, directed by Prof. Nina Kraus, studies have shown that music training helps strengthen speech and reading.

But it is not impossible.  According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 99% of domestic violence survivors also suffer financial abuse and they have the additional challenge of rebuilding their financial lives.
