Northwestern University has submitted its Ryan Field planned development application, along with revisions to its zoning application, kicking off the city’s review process. NU still seeks 10 concerts a year, but its latest filing would end weekend and holiday events earlier than originally proposed. And the university said it will enter into a memorandum of understanding with the city “to address operational issues that are outside of the purview of zoning.”

Dillo Day is Saturday, and Northwestern hosted a virtual meeting Monday to inform neighbors about the lakefill music fest and other planned end-of-class-year events, including graduation and the inauguration of new president Michael Schill. But Dillo Day (above, Teyana Taylor performs in 2019) took center stage as speakers outlined plans to address nuisance complaints via police and Student Affairs staff during the festival, and an off-campus cleanup operation the morning after.

In case you missed it: Ahead of Mother’s Day, the RoundTable’s Gina Castro spoke with Evanston mothers who lost children to gun violence. “I think that Evanston overall really thinks that it [the death of a child] won’t happen to them,” said Carolyn Murray, whose son was killed in 2012. “It’s obviously something that I never want any mother to go through, but every year, the numbers grow.” Above, the Life Without My Child support group marks Bereaved Mother’s Day on May 7.

The Wildkits baseball team couldn’t make enough plays Monday to stay in the CSL South division race, falling 3-1 to Glenbrook North. But ETHS (25-6 overall) has the No. 1 seed in the Class 4A Evanston Sectional tournament starting next week.

In ETHS boys tennis, junior Finn Pollard advanced to the No. 1 singles title match with a Friday win over a familiar foe from Glenbrook South, and scored his best-ever conference tournament finish on Saturday despite finishing second.

Although ETHS gymnasts Xavier Probst, Mo Frischer and Jacob Potter bowed out of the IHSA state meet after prelims on Friday, all three boys figure to be competing on the final weekend in the 2024 tournament.

Beaches open May 27, and beach passes are available free for residents. New for summer 2023, all beach patrons must present a season beach pass or daily ticket to enter the beach. IDs will not be accepted at beach entrances.
