Dear reader,
During the RoundTable’s Spring Membership Drive, our goal is to sign up 300 new members willing to help support local journalism. The community’s support is essential in helping us provide the high quality coverage of city government, schools – and so much more – that you expect from us.
And we are well on the way. So far, 169 new members are onboard – and that brings us to 56 percent of our campaign goal. There’s still plenty of time for you to join them!
What happens when communities lose their local news organizations?
The evidence is clear. Participation in local elections falls and elections are less competitive. Corruption goes unchecked and the cost of government rises. Disinformation becomes the norm as people get their news from social media.
Local newspapers are the connective tissue of communities. They introduce people to their neighbors, provide a trusted, balanced forum for debate and discussion. And they throw light on problems that need to be addressed.
