The city will begin work on its Main Street Corridor Improvement Project in early April, with an anticipated completion date of mid- to late-September, weather permitting. This project includes the replacement of curb and gutters, roadway resurfacing and reconstruction, streetscape improvements, street light replacement, traffic signal modernization, pavement markings and landscaping.
This project will significantly enhance the aesthetics of the business district and increase safety for pedestrians while improving traffic flow and safety. These improvements are part of the city’s ongoing program to improve its roadway system and are funded through a combination of federal and local sources.
The project will be completed in three phases (the locations of each phase and anticipated schedule is weather dependent):
- Phase 1: Maple Ave. to Hinman Ave north sidewalk and streetscape will occur April 1, 2024 through the end of June 2024.
- Phase 2: Maple Ave. to Hinman Ave. south sidewalk and streetscape will occur
June 17, 2024 through the end of July 2024. - Phase 3: Maple Avenue to Hinman Avenue street resurfacing, which includes grinding Main Street, base replacement, asphalt binder, structure adjustment, final asphalt surface coarse and pavement markings. This will occur July 29, 2024 to mid-August. Street lights, traffic signals and signage will be completed by mid-September 2024.
The actual date when construction is planned will be indicated on temporary “No Parking” signs posted 48 hours in advance. Construction zone “No Parking” will be in effect on sections of Main Street during each construction phase. Street sweeping and residential parking restrictions will be waived for one block in each direction around Main Street, from Maple Avenue to Hinman Avenue.
During construction, one lane of traffic will be maintained on Main Street, depending on the construction phase, and access to the businesses will be maintained at all times. Construction activities will create some inconveniences for the abutting businesses and residents; however, workers will strive to minimize any issues.

The contractor for this roadway project is Alliance Contractors, Inc. located at 1166 Lake Ave., Woodstock, IL.

Will it be bike friendly? Despite being a designated bike route, it is not a great street on which to ride.
